17-Year-Old Threatened To Kill, Posted Snapchat Video With Gun: Police

The Kansas teen was safely in custody Tuesday after multiple evacuations and an extensive manhunt, according to police.

CHAPMAN, KS — A teen is in custody after his violent threats resulted in an extensive manhunt and the closure of multiple recreational facilities Tuesday in Chapman, according to police.

Authorities were notified Monday evening that a 17-year-old boy had threatened to harm and kill specific people as well as the general public, according to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen had displayed a small pistol in a video on Snapchat, the sheriff’s office said, noting the boy’s mother was “concerned” and “strongly feels he needs help.”

Authorities warned the public to consider the teen armed and dangerous, and used helicopter, K-9, drone and infrared units to search for the boy, according to the sheriff’s office. The local ball complex and swimming pool were also evacuated, police said.

The teen was found and safely taken into custody about 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office.
