TOPEKA — Democratic Congresswoman Sharice Davids said Thursday that U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy should be fired for adopting changes in Postal Service operations that could compromise voting by mail in the November general election.

Davis, who represents the 3rd District in Johnson and Wyandotte counties, said DeJoy’s leadership could prevent prompt delivery of ballots to election officials.

“I will not stand by while this president and his cronies try to tear apart this constitutionally mandated and extremely popular institution piece by piece in order to serve their political agenda,” she said. “The American people have lost all faith in DeJoy’s ability to lead the Postal Service and he must be removed immediately.”

Davids, whose mother worked for the Postal Service for nearly 20 years, is being challenged by Republican nominate Amanda Adkins, a Cerner executive and former campaign manager for Sam Brownback.

Davids alleged President Donald Trump “admitted he is purposely sabotaging the USPS to make it harder for people to vote.”

The president has objected to new funding for the Postal Service and expressed skepticism about mail-in voting.
