- The Kansas Supreme Court has remanded the case of Allen Lee Busch after it was determined that part of his sentence was not legal. The court affirmed and vacated part of the Seward Co. Court decision, which sentenced Busch for possession of meth, oxycodone, and drug paraphernalia, and additionally noted that his previous convictions in New Jersey for burglary and criminal trespass were not person felonies. Busch's case has been remanded for resentencing. (WIBW)
- The newly-completed Deer Creek Trail in Shawnee County has been unveiled after this past weekend's inaugural Tour of Topeka event. The trail, started in 2014, aims to help bikers safely travel without being near local traffic. Mike McLaughlin, the Communications and Public Information Supervisor for Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, said the biker safety was a priority and hopes the trail will solve any issues going forward. - Harvesters' mobile food distribution will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9 at One Expocentre Drive. The mobile food distribution, which aims to help people in need of food assistance, is sponsored by Topeka Turnaround, Inc. in partnership with Topeka Bible Church. (WIBW)

- Saturday's temperature in Topeka reached 98 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking the previous record of 92! That record was set back in 1916, more than 100 years ago. (KSNT News)
- A downtown pocket park honoring C.F. Menninger will be unveiled along Kansas Avenue Tuesday, May 9. The small, plaza-like area will include a life-size statue of Menninger, one of the world's most well-respected and influential leaders in modern mental health care. (The Topeka Capital-Journal)
- A shooting that took place in Southwest Topeka on Saturday, May 6 is under police investigation. According to Topeka Police Department, officers were dispatched around 3:18 a.m. to SW Western, where they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to an area hospital. (WIBW)
