Here are the top three stories today in Topeka:
- After a long work trip in Oklahoma, a trucker was reunited with his puppy who was lost in Topeka. Poppy the dog got lost on an overnight trip and his owner Archie was unable to find him before heading off for work. Luckily, the Helping Hands Humane Society located the pup through his microchip and took great care of him before returning him to his owner. Volunteers made the trip all the way to Dodge City to see to it that Poppy safely made it back home. (WIBW)
- For the first time ever, the City of Topeka hosted a "Special Tee" event at Washburn University over the weekend where they helped those with special needs learn golfing basics. Eli Logan, a volunteer at the event, expressed how seeing the participants' satisfaction after hitting a great shot made him feel important. The organizers look forward to making this an annual event. (KSNT News)
- The Prevention and Resiliency Services is inviting the public to attend a National Night Out Planning meeting on Apr. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. The meeting is essential for the success of National Night Out 2023, which aims to build positive relationships between the community and first responders such as police, sheriff, and firefighters. National Night Out will take place on Aug. 5 — to learn more about it, visit parstopeka.org. (WIBW)
