  1. On Friday, Jun. 24, a new living facility for senior citizens officially broke ground on the southeast side of Topeka. The brand-new Southern Hills Senior Homes will feature 12 duplexes and 24 units, all of which include two bedrooms and one bathroom. According to officials, this entire living facility will be designed to house individuals that earn less than 50 percent of the area median income, which equals around $30,000 a year or less. (WIBW)
  2. A 28-year-old woman is currently behind bars after allegedly burglarizing a residence in Northeast Topeka. Officers quickly responded and located the woman and vehicle, which were both taken into custody without incident. According to the Topeka Police Department, Allison Brese was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for suspicion of burglary and theft. (KSNT)
  3. This year, Topeka's Habitat for Humanity partnered with a local nonprofit known as Braided Haven to host an inaugural build that celebrated pride and diversity. This event focused on providing a fun way for members and supporters of the LGBTQ+ community to come together to celebrate diversity, learn new skills, and make an important statement about the fundamental human right of a safe, decent, affordable place to live for everyone. Braided Haven is a nonprofit organization that provides support and services for youths within the LGBTQ+ community. (WIBW)

  • A new Chipotle Mexican Grill in Topeka will officially host its grand opening on Tuesday, Jun. 27. According to a spokesperson from the popular Mexican food chain, this location will include "Chipotlane," which allows guests to order online and pick up their food without having to leave their cars.   • On Saturday, Jun. 24, Topeka Lions Club and Midland Care hosted their annual walk that focuses on bringing awareness to prediabetes. The community walk took place at GagePark and brought out more than 50 participants, despite the not-so-nice weather. (WIBW)
  • A variety of organizations in Topeka are taking the initiative to make their community a better place. Numerous business owners are banding together to progressively clean up different areas downtown to help boost morale and keep the city safe. (KSNT)
