Sodexo supports R. F. Lewis Scholars for a third year

The Universities of Louisiana System partner Sodexo pledged to help fund the Reginald F. (R.F.) Lewis Scholars program for a third year, extending opportunities to exceptional Black males within the System.

The Reginald F. (R.F.) Lewis Scholars program encourages students to reach their academic and social potential through applied research, semesters abroad, leadership training, community projects, and mentorship from faculty and fellow peers.

In addition to fostering student’s potential, the program introduces members to experiences that they could not afford otherwise.

In 2021, Sodexo became the first food service company to provide meal plan stipends to the R.F. Lewis Scholars, with plans to surpass previous donations of $30K and $70k this upcoming year.

Sodexo Senior Vice President Ron Guillory joined program cohorts for their Paris trip in April to connect with the up-and-coming scholars and offer mentorship.

The group enjoyed a dinner cruise along the Seine River and a meal at Madame Brasserie at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

“I wish that I would have had an opportunity to be a part of such a great program when I was in school,” said Guillory. “I am extremely proud of the work Jim Henderson, Claire Norris, PhD, Marcus Jones and a host of other UL system supporters are doing to increase graduation rates of black males in Louisiana.”

Sodexo is an integrated part of the campuses it serves, helping faculty and students meet their aspirations through supporting growth-oriented campus programs and offering paid internships to students across a variety of fields.
