📰 News we're reading

1. Boil Water Advisory Issued for Grand Isle's Cheniere Area After Pressure Loss in Distribution System (hoodline.com) — If you live on the Cheniere side of Grand Isle, you must boil tap water for at least one full minute before drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth due to a Jefferson Parish Water Department advisory. Officials say the precaution follows a pressure loss in the system and offer bleach-disinfection instructions, with updates available through the parish website, social media, and JPALERT texts.

2. Jefferson Parish adjusts Mardi Gras rules, aims to boost parade participation (wwltv.com) — Jefferson Parish has tightened Mardi Gras float costume and masking rules while loosening marching club size requirements to keep parades viable. Riders must now be fully costumed and masked, with limited exceptions, and marching groups can be as small as 15 members, changes parish leaders hope will bolster struggling krewes and preserve Carnival traditions locally.

3. JPSO expands drone program, launches high-tech fleet to speed up response times (wwltv.com) — Jefferson Parish deputies are now relying on a much larger fleet of high-tech drones that can launch from a 24/7 command center, speeding up searches and crime responses across the parish. Sheriff Joe Lopinto says the $1.5 million expansion has already aided more than 60 apprehensions and helps protect both residents and deputies during emergencies and investigations.

4. State to use federal grant money on AI tools and tutoring in public schools (businessreport.com) — Jefferson Parish public schools are in line for a significant share of nearly $6 million in new state funding for AI learning tools and tutoring, pending state board approval this week. The money would expand access to platforms like Khanmigo and bolster the Steve Carter Tutoring Program, aiming to support literacy, math, and writing for Jefferson students as federal pandemic funds wind down.
