For $150, both new and experienced gardeners can receive in-depth horticulture training and then volunteer locally to support home gardeners and community projects through the LSU AgCenter’s research-based program.

ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS: Bid Information for Leasing of Agricultural Property at NPSB (natchitochesparishjournal.com) — Local farmers and landowners have a chance to lease agricultural property through the Natchitoches Parish School Board, with sealed bids due by 1 p.m. on January 5, 2026, at 310 Royal Street in Natchitoches. Windcrest, Ransom Canyon land on Zillow list of most festive holiday towns (star-telegram.com) — Natchitoches just earned national attention as Zillow’s No. 6 most festive holiday town in America, praised for its lights and community celebrations. The ranking puts Natchitoches alongside places like Santa Claus, Indiana, and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, underscoring how strongly the city’s holiday spirit stands out nationwide and reinforcing its draw for visitors and proud locals alike.
   

5. Microsoft buys carbon credits from Louisiana bioenergy plant (thecentersquare.com) — A major new bio-methanol plant in Rapides Parish could help replace forestry and mill jobs lost when the International Paper mill in Campti, Natchitoches Parish, closed earlier this year. The $2.4 billion Beaver Lake project, backed by Microsoft’s carbon-credit deal, promises hundreds of construction and permanent jobs while turning local wood waste into low-carbon fuel. Local forestry leaders say it could strengthen Louisiana’s timber economy for years.
