📰 News we're reading

• New Iberia families invited to Pancakes & PJs with Santa at Sliman Theatre (thedailyiberian.com) — Families can enjoy breakfast with Santa at Sliman Theatre in downtown New Iberia this Saturday, Dec. 13, from 8–10 a.m. Kids and adults are encouraged to wear pajamas, eat McDonald’s pancakes, take photos with Santa, and enjoy face painting and cookie decorating, but everyone needs a ticket in advance.

• New Iberia speed cameras to be removed (katc.com) — Speed cameras near Daspit Elementary School in New Iberia are being removed, and Mayor Freddie DeCourt says fines collected there will be refunded because the street isn’t actually inside city limits. City leaders stress police will still respond to incidents in the area, while parish officials review the issue at a council meeting.

• Proposal to extend bar hours gains momentum in Iberia Parish (klfy.com) — A proposed change to Iberia Parish law could let bars in unincorporated areas stay open until 2 a.m. on weekdays, matching nearby communities that now draw late-night crowds. Supporters, including a local nightclub owner and staff, argue this would keep New Iberia–area patrons off the highways and spending money closer to home. Parish council members will debate the ordinance and hear public input on Dec. 17.
