Founded by Jamal Rasoully and inspired by New York City street food, The Halal Shack makes its debut this fall at Tulane University.

Named by QSR Magazine as one of America’s hottest start-ups in the fast casual space, the food concept offers build-a-bowl meals, with the customer’s choice of base, filling, toppings, and sauces.

The menu combines mouth-watering Mediterranean flavors, savory Middle Eastern spices, and halal, vegan and vegetarian options. Halal food is prepared within Islamic dietary standards.

“We know that good food is good for you, which is why we offer locally sourced ingredients, humanely treated meat, and vegan/vegetarian options,” said Rasoully. “Our mission is to unite cultures and people through food, one sauce’n meal at a time.”

According to Rasoully, the partnership with Tulane University has been a long time coming.

Chef Wesley Turnage, general manager of Tulane Dining Services and Rasoully worked together to bring this special project to life on campus.

“The Halal Shack serves a genre of food we are pioneering called American halal,” said Rasoully. “It’s a 100 percent halal fusion between Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors with an American style spin.”
