Healthy Blue Louisiana Holds Events To Support Children and Families

Statewide Events by Healthy Blue Louisiana Spotlight Wellness, Literacy, and Special Needs Inclusion

Healthy Blue Louisiana recently held a series of events across the state to encourage children and their families to adopt healthy lifestyles.

In an effort to promote literacy, Healthy Blue and Kiwanis of Southwest Louisiana held “A Read Aloud” event for pre-K and Kindergarten students at Lake Charles Kaufman Elementary School. In addition, first and second graders received awards for completing a nine-week reading program.
More than 200 families attended “Spring Bunny Stop & Hop.” The event was designed especially for families with special needs children and included crucial resources from a variety of community partners, such as the Calcasieu Parish Library, DCFS, McNeese State University Therapy Department, LSU Ag Center Nutrition, Goodwill, and many more, along with fun trunk-or-treat activities.

Healthy Blue representatives also participated in the SOWELA Technical Community College – Morgan Smith Campus Spring Health & Resource Fair. Participants learned about health resources and made connections with many local groups such as Save the Children Early Childhood, OASIS, Imperial Calcasieu Behavioral Health Services and others.
