Campus Chefs compete in 22nd Annual "Got Gumbo?" Cook-Off organized by the United Way of Southeast Louisiana

Loyola University New Orleans Dining Services proudly announced their successful participation in the 22nd Annual “Got Gumbo?” Cook-Off, organized by the United Way of Southeast Louisiana. The event took place on Tuesday, March 19th, at the Royal Sonesta Hotel on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The “Got Gumbo?” Cook-Off is a beloved annual tradition that brings together food enthusiasts and top chefs from across the city to showcase their culinary talents and support the mission of the United Way in eradicating poverty in Southeast Louisiana.

Loyola Catering, known for its innovative and delicious cuisine, entered the competition with two delectable gumbo creations:

The Krewe de Gumbo panel of celebrity judges, including esteemed personalities like WWLTV TV Host Malik Mingo, New Orleans Digital Creator Lynn Wesley Coleman, and Resident Chef & Reporter for WWLTV Chef Kevin Belton, evaluated the entries based on categories such as Best Traditional Gumbo, Best Exotic Gumbo, and Best Seafood Gumbo.

After a fierce but friendly competition, Loyola Catering emerged victorious, securing the coveted Judges Choice (1st place) for Best Seafood Gumbo. This win reflects Loyola’s commitment to culinary excellence and creativity.

Malik Mingo, one of the judges from the cook-off, enthusiastically praised Loyola Catering’s Seafood Gumbo with Creole Potato Salad, stating, “This potato salad was delicious! It was definitely a game changer! I want another bowl!” This accolade highlights Loyola’s ability to impress even the most discerning palates with their culinary expertise.
