Traffic Advisory: Temporary Road Closure On Prentiss Avenue At Old Spanish Trail Intersection In City Of New Orleans

Today, 69 projects are under construction with an estimated value of more than $600 million.

NEW ORLEANS — Beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, at 7 a.m., weather permitting, City of New Orleans Department of Public Works contractor Beverly Construction Company will temporarily close the intersection of Prentiss Avenue and Old Spanish Trail for approximately one week to perform drainage line replacement operations as part of the $1.6 million Old Spanish Trail (Nighthart Street-Sherwood Drive) infrastructure improvement project. Residents in this area have been notified about the closure via a neighborhood canvassing effort.

Public safety is our priority; residents and commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near the construction site. Southbound traffic from Prentiss Avenue and northbound traffic onto Prentiss Avenue will be closed in the 11300 and 11400 blocks of Old Spanish Trail. Lane closure signs will be in place throughout construction; this closure is scheduled to reopen Friday, Aug. 27, at 5 p.m., weather permitting.

During this time, street parking and/or driveway access will not be impacted. Residents and visitors must adhere to any “No Parking” signs on the streets to avoid being ticketed and towed.

The Old Spanish Trail (Nighthart Street-Sherwood Drive) infrastructure improvement project calls for removing and replacing existing water and drainage lines, repairing the sewer line, repaving the roadway in asphalt, replacing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons and installing Americans with Disabilities Act- compliant curb ramps at intersections. All work on this project is anticipated to be complete in Winter 2021.

Since May 2018, DPW has completed 98 projects with an estimated value of $271 million. Today, 69 projects are under construction with an estimated value of more than $600 million.
