Xavier University of La. Students, SodexoMagic Uplift Cancer Patients

Xavier University of Louisiana students recently teamed up with SodexoMagic to bring encouragement and hope to breast cancer patients

Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) students recently teamed up with SodexoMagic to bring encouragement and hope to breast cancer patients at LCMC Hospital's University Center Oncology Department. As part of a community-driven initiative, the 89th Miss Xavier and the 10th Mister Xavier led the hand delivery of personal, handwritten letters on October 30th, creating a moment of warmth and support during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This initiative, spearheaded by XULA Dining and SodexoMagic Marketing Coordinator Maya Weber in collaboration with the Student Government Association (SGA), began earlier in October when students were invited to write letters of encouragement. These heartfelt notes, collected on October 16th in the dining hall, contained personal messages meant to uplift patients undergoing cancer treatment.

On delivery day, Miss and Mister Xavier joined representatives from XULA Dining and SodexoMagic to visit the hospital. They distributed the letters and spent time speaking with patients, sharing words of hope and comfort. A particularly touching moment occurred when they met a patient ringing the bell to celebrate her final round of chemotherapy.

“The students loved knowing that someone was actually going to read their letters and feel encouraged,” said Maya Weber. “This project reflects SodexoMagic’s commitment to making a difference in the community, extending care far beyond food service.”
The involvement of XULA’s royal court added a special touch, embodying the university’s mission of service and compassion. The collaboration between XULA Dining, SodexoMagic, the SGA, and the university community exemplifies how small gestures can make a lasting impact.

This initiative highlights XULA’s dedication to fostering a culture of care both on campus and in the greater community. By participating in this act of kindness, the university and SodexoMagic demonstrated their shared commitment to supporting those in need and raising awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
