Maine Man Who Set Ex-Girlfriend's Clothes On Fire Sentenced: Report

AUBURN, ME — A Maine man who set his ex-girlfriend's clothes on fire, assaulted her and threatened her with a knife will spend the next nine months in jail following his sentencing this week, according to a report.

Christian Conley of Naples pleaded guilty to eight charges on Tuesday, WGME reported. He was sentenced to four years in prison but a judge suspended all but nine months of the sentence.

Conley was convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend in August 2021. According to a Sun Journal report, police were called to a Lewiston home where Conley had set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s clothes in the driveway. Conley had also choked the woman and caused an estimated $3,000 in damage at the home, the Sun Journal reported.

A the time, Conley was prohibited by the court from having contact with the woman due to previous charges of domestic assault, terrorizing, and criminal mischief.

Authorities later charged him with arson, domestic assault, domestic threatening, terrorizing, refusing to submit to arrest, aggravated criminal mischief, aggravated assault and violating conditions of release.

After his release, Conley will be on probation for two years.
