Police: Augusta, Maine Man Allegedly Stabbed Wife During Confrontation with Officer (ultimatemaine.com) — An Augusta man is accused of stabbing his wife on Mount Vernon Avenue while an officer tried to separate them, leaving her with a serious arm wound treated at MaineGeneral. Police say he later told investigators he hoped officers would shoot him, and he’s now being held at the Kennebec County jail without bail.
   

2. Maine Cancer Foundation awards grants to boost patient access to care (mainebiz.biz) — Augusta-area cancer patients will see expanded help with rides and lodging thanks to a $60,000 grant to MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care. The award is part of $660,000 in statewide Maine Cancer Foundation grants aimed at easing transportation and housing burdens so patients don’t delay critical treatment, especially in rural communities.
   

3. Maine lawmaker plans to submit mental health resources bill for heritage industries (wgme.com) — A new mental health bill set to be introduced in Augusta aims to better support workers in Maine’s heritage industries like fishing, logging, and farming. Sen. Henry Ingwersen wants a working group of industry employees and state officials to tackle stigma, access to care, and the unique pressures facing largely male, rural outdoor workers across the state.
   

4. Public speaks on tariff impact to Maine-Canadian commission (wabi.tv) — A Maine-Canadian Legislative Advisory Commission meeting in Augusta gathered residents and industry experts to describe how federal tariffs are cutting exports to Canada and hurting sectors like logging. Speakers urged state-level legislative fixes, while trade officials stressed that Maine’s long-term economic relationship with Canada remains strong, with new business delegations and opportunities still emerging.
   

5. Janet Mills and Graham Platner tied with Susan Collins entering 2026 race (bangordailynews.com) — New polling out of Augusta shows Gov. Janet Mills and Democrat Graham Platner each essentially tied with Sen. Susan Collins in early testing of Maine’s 2026 U.S. Senate race. The Pan Atlantic survey also signals trouble for Democrats running state government in Augusta, with nearly half of voters saying Maine is on the wrong track and naming the economy and inflation as top concerns.
