• A Mainer who died in a Japanese prison camp will return home next spring (bangordailynews.com) — Dover-Foxcroft readers are reminded of hometown soldier Pvt. Willard Merrill, who died at the Cabanatuan prison camp just weeks before fellow Mainer Cpl. Delmont Johnston, whose remains have finally been identified. Johnston, a Monmouth native captured after Bataan, will be reburied in Augusta next spring after extensive scientific work confirmed his identity decades later.
