• Nonprofit seeks volunteers to support survivors of traumatic events in Greater Portland area (newscentermaine.com) — A volunteer-run Trauma Intervention Program is looking for Greater Portland residents willing to support neighbors after house fires, medical emergencies, and other crises. TIP volunteers train to provide on-scene emotional support alongside first responders and must commit to three 12-hour on-call shifts a month, with the next training Jan. 29–Feb. 7 at Scarborough Public Safety Building.
   

• Portland warming shelter closed last night, tonight due to staffing issue (wmtw.com) — Portland’s city warming shelter on Riverside Street is closed for a second straight night because of staffing issues, even as temperatures have dipped into the single digits. With capacity for 60 people, the shelter typically opens in extreme cold, leaving some unhoused residents scrambling for options while the city has yet to publicly explain the shutdown.
   

• Here's how many houses sold in every Maine county this year (bangordailynews.com) — Home sales across Maine rose this year, with Cumberland County — home to the greater Portland area — leading the state with nearly 3,500 properties sold through November. While prices have plateaued around $400,000, increased inventory and steady demand suggest a stabilizing market that could shape buying and selling decisions for Portland-area residents heading into 2026.
