Eagles Girls Earn Top Basketball Seed For Playoffs

Despite a far different regular season, Aberdeen reaches the end of February much like it did a year ago—with its sights set on another deep playoff run.

Some 11 months after winning the Class 3A state title, the Eagles girls basketball team will head into the MPSSAA region playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Class 3A North region.

Aberdeen earned a first round bye and will host the winner of Patterson and Franklin on Feb. 25. A win there means the Eagles host the region semifinal on Feb. 27. The region finals will be played March 1 and 2.

The Eagles have battled adversity in 2012-2013. Namely, Aberdeen lost its star player, Bri Jones, to a knee injury, according to The Sun. 

So aside from having to fill the shoes of a talented senior class from a year ago, the young Eagles had to learn to win without the dominating, Maryland-bound post player.

Aberdeen was 8-2 when Jones went down. Since, they've gone 10-1.

Before the title defense starts, Aberdeen will look to win another conerence title. The Eagles visit C. Milton Wright for the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference title on Thursday.
