MD Army National Guard Unit Deploys Friday

The Maryland Army National Guard will deploy approximately 60 members Friday.

Approximately 60 members of the Maryland Army National Guard will deploy from Friday afternoon.

The Company B, 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment will deploy with six CH-47 Chinook aircraft for a year of duty in Afghanistan, according to a release from the Maryland Army National Guard.

This is the unit's second tour of Afghanistan since 2008. It was deployed from Sept. 2007 to May 2008 to provide support of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, according to the release.

The National Guard said the 126th Aviation Regiment "will provide aerial movement of troops, suppliesΒ and equipment for support of maneuver, combat support and combat serviceΒ support operations."

A ceremony will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the MG Warren D. Hodges Armory in the Edgewood Area of APG. The unit will depart from the Army Aviation Support Facility at 1 p.m.
