Residents Asked To Update Emergency Contact Info

Harford County Emergency Operations uses cell phone numbers as emergency contacts.

Rick Ayers wants your number.

Actually, he wants all of your numbers—including your cell phone.

The Harford County emergency manager—whose voice residents often hear in a recorded message in advance of a weather event or when county-wide alerts are necessary—is requesting all residents add their cell phone numbers to the county's contact list in order to better serve residents during service outages.

In his most recent message Wednesday night, Ayers said, in part: "In the last week, the county was faced with record heat and that lasted for several days. Several citizens did not receive our emergency messages when they lost power. In an efford to serve you better, I encourage each citizen to enter your cell phone in our emergency notification system."

Residents may also call 410-638-4029 if they need assistance.

Harford County uses a system called ConnectCTY, which will send out alerts via a recording to phone numbers. It occasionally sends out emails and text alerts, as well.
