State To Fund Intersection Projects Near APG

Maryland will provide $9 million for road improvements in Aberdeen and Harford County following Aberdeen Proving Ground's BRAC growth.

Maryland will help fund improvements at two intersections with $9 million to increase traffic flow to and from .

Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown announced the funding in a news release Monday, providing the state the ability to purchase land and improve the intersection at MD Route 22 and Paradise Road in Aberdeen. It also enables the relocation of utilities and improvement of the intersection at MD Route 22 and Old Post Road.

"These funds allow the State to continue moving forward in our drive to bring much-needed road and pedestrian improvements to theΒ AberdeenΒ Proving Grounds and alleviate congestion on Route 22 in theΒ AberdeenΒ area," Brown said in a statement.Β "Our commitment to BRAC remains strong as we understand that BRAC inΒ MarylandΒ means more jobs, a stronger economy, and a valuable contribution to our national security."

The investment includes funding for land acquisition at MD Route 22 and Paradise Road (MD Route 462) and $1 million for utility relocations at Route 22 and Old Post Road (MD 132).

Further fundingβ€”another $12 million to 15 million for MD 22/462 and $8 million to 10 million for MD 22/132β€”is required to complete the construction.

Brown is the Chair of the Governor's Subcabinet on Base Realignment and Closure. Aberdeen Proving Ground , though more jobs continue to move to the area.
