All bases are covered at the October 7 Walk to End Alzheimer's Harford/Cecil. "We plan to figuratively score hits, runs and no fouls with community support to raise funds and awareness in the fight to end Alzheimer's," says Gabi Shifflett, Alzheimer's Association development manager. The Walk begins at 9 a.m. at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium (873 Long Drive, Aberdeen 20001).
The goal is to raise $82,000. "The success of the Walk depends on support from families, local businesses and community organizations," says Shifflett. Walkers who raise $100 receive a commemorative Walk t-shirt with incentive awards for additional fundraising levels.

Volunteer on Walk Day
Volunteering on Walk Day lets businesses, organizations, schools and places of worship support the community. Tasks include helping with set-up, disassembling, staffing the food table and team photo booth and cheering for walkers.

Promise Garden Ceremony
At registration, each walker receives a large pinwheel flower whose color identifies how the disease affects their lives: blue-living with a diagnosis; yellow-caregiver; orange-advocate or supporter; blue-lost a loved one to the disease. The flowers are raised in unison during a Promise Garden Ceremony when personal stories are shared to inspire and thank walkers for their support. "Walkers of all ages come out to walk in honor and memory of those they love," says Shifflett. "Walk provides a forum for people who are impacted by the disease to do something that makes a tangible difference," says Shifflett.
