What Would You Build in Aberdeen?

We asked Patch readers, what they would build or fix in Aberdeen with $1 million. Here's what you said.

Aberdeen, MD - Earlier this week, Aberdeen Patch asked our Facebook readers what they would build or fix in town if they were given $1 million.

Readers from across the area responded with answers varying from new playgrounds, renovated high schools and improved hospitals.

Also early this week, U.S. News and World Report released its list of the Top 10 Children’s Hospitals Across the Country. The hospitals were ranked in terms of β€œclinical outcomes,” β€œefficient coordination of care,” and β€œcare-related resources.”

The publication periodically releases lists regarding the best schools in the country as well as most livable cities. Many of the things that make a town or city β€˜livable’ are resources and public spaces i.e. good schools, roads, parks, libraries, etc. Not surprisingly, these were many of the things readers said they would build or fix in their town if granted $1 million to do so.

  • "A movie theater."
  • "I would build a place for kids to have fun instated of running the streets - a safe place."
  • "Help restore the old train station...and other historical spots in Aberdeen."
  • "I'd fund to finish the construction on 22. It is taking forever to be finished."
  • "Demolish all the parking lots on West Bel Air Ave, build architecturally aesthetic buildings in their place, and refurbish the exterior of all the ugly buildings to classic brick."
  • "Invest in the Rt 40 portion of Aberdeen...bring back business and restaurants."
  • "How about fixing up the east side with business, gas station, Wawa store, Fast food stores, or small Mini Mall?"
  • "More security cameras around schools and business area, also, additional equipment for police and fire department, like new vehicles, etc.."
  • "Give downtown a makeover, compared to Havre de Grace and Bel Air it looks like an armpit. Shame considering Aberdeen employs so many through APG and is probably leading in warehouse industry."
