Boy, 2, Fatally Struck By Tram In Ocean City: Police
A toddler was crossing the boardwalk tram pad Tuesday night when he was struck by the tram. The city has halted all boardwalk tram service.

OCEAN CITY, MD — A 2-year-old boy died Tuesday night when he was struck by a tram in the Maryland resort town of Ocean City, officials said.
According to Ocean City police, the toddler was crossing the boardwalk tram pad near Dorchester Street when he was struck by a southbound tram shortly before 8:15 p.m. Ocean City first responders pronounced the child dead at the scene, police said.
Both tram conductors remained at the scene following the collision, authorities said.

The Town of Ocean City has suspended all boardwalk tram services until further notice following the accident.
According to a statement, city officials are working with law enforcement to determine what led up to the crash.

"There are no words to convey the profound sadness we feel for the family and their unimaginable loss. We are devastated and heartbroken," Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan said in a statement. "We are committed to supporting the family and ensuring that everything possible is done to prevent such tragedies in the future."
The tram shutdown come as visitors head to Ocean City before many school districts start classes Aug. 26 and to catch the O.C. Air Show this weekend. Residents and visitors can expect heavy traffic delays for vehicles and pedestrians, particularly in the downtown areas.
