A Caroline County house fire caused $120,000 damage and killed a resident's dog, the state fire marshal said. The fire began in the kitchen.

DENTON, MD — A Caroline County house fire caused $120,000 damage and killed a resident's dog, the state fire marshal said. The electrical fire began Friday morning in the kitchen near a microwave.

The townhome fire was reported at 10:10 a.m. at 309 High St. in Denton.

Resident Amber Duncan reported her dog died in the blaze, according to a news release from the State Fire Marshal's office Monday.

A neighbor reported the fire, which displaced four residents from the townhome.

Authorities said a smoke alarm was activated, but the residence did not have a sprinkler system.

The fire caused $90,000 damage to the townhome, plus $30,000 to the contents inside it, officials said.

The Denton Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire.
