Major MD Retailers Closed For Thanksgiving 2023: Walmart, Target, More
Some Maryland chains that have opened on Thanksgiving in past years have decided to close this year, including Michael's and Walgreens.
MARYLAND — Thanksgiving is here, and as usual, many retailers in Maryland have decided to close their doors to give employees time to spend with their families. This year, the list includes major chains such as Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Macy’s.
Some chains that have opened on Thanksgiving in past years have decided to close this year, including Michael’s and Walgreens. Most Walgreens stores will close — except 24-hour locations — as the drug chain faces retail theft, debt issues and competition, according to Axios, not to mention staffing challenges.
"We have consistently heard from our team members — who are the face of Walgreens — that time off is a meaningful way for us to demonstrate we value them," Chief Customer Officer Tracey Brown said, according to MarketWatch.

CVS, meanwhile, told Axios that its non-24-hour stores will have reduced hours on the holiday. Rite-Aid is also reducing hours at many of its stores.
Patch has compiled a list of retailers that will not open on Thanksgiving. As usual, we strongly recommend calling local stores ahead of time to be sure they are — or are not — open.
