MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Mia Khalifa — the 30-year-old adult content star from Maryland who rose to fame for wearing a hijab in erotic films — has been removed from Playboy's CENTERFOLD platform due to controversial comments she made on social media about the Palestine–Israel conflict, the company said in a statement to users obtained by the Daily Mail.

"We are writing today to let you know of our decision to terminate Playboy's relationship with Mia Khalifa, including deleting Mia's Playboy channel on our creator platform," they wrote in the statement. "Mia has made disgusting and reprehensible comments celebrating Hamas' attacks on Israel and the murder of innocent men, women, and children."

In a series of tweets shared on X, Khalifa shared her support of Hamas, the militant group that rules Gaza, Palestine, and is considered a terrorist organization by multiple nations including the United States.

"I can’t believe the Zionist apartheid regime is being brought down by guerrilla fighters in fake Gucci shirts - the biopics of these moments better reflect that," Khalifa wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted, but archived in screenshots.

In another deleted and archived tweet, Khalifa requested that the Hamas, which she referred to as "freedom fighters," film scenes of the carnage in horizontal format.

After receiving a slew of backlash, Khalifa posted another tweet in which she seems to be defending herself.

"I just wanna make sure there’s 4k footage of my people breaking down the walls of the open air prison they’ve been forced out of their homes and into so we have good options for the history books that write about how how (sic) they freed themselves from apartheid," she wrote, in part.

According to her biography provided by IMDb, Khalifa was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and moved with her family to the United States in 2000. She moved to Montgomery County, Maryland, as a teenager and attended Northwest High School in Germantown. A few years later, she graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a bachelor's degree in history.

Hamas, which has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, launched an attack inside Israel over the weekend, killing hundreds and taking others hostage while seizing settlements. Its unprecedented breach of the border sent fighters inside border communities and military installations, shocked Israel and its allies, and raised questions about the group's capabilities and strategy.

The U.S. State Department designated Hamas a terrorist group in 1997. The European Union and other Western countries also consider it a terrorist organization.
