State Sen. Young Becomes First Elected Official To Back Gansler For Governor

State Sen. Ronald N. Young (D-Frederick) on Friday became the first elected official to endorse former Maryland attorney general Douglas F. Gansler (D) for governor.

Young delivered his endorsement during a walking tour of downtown Frederick with Gansler. The two discussed Gansler’s support for a proposed downtown hotel and conference center for Frederick, which has long been a priority of Young’s.
“Having worked with him on a broad range of issues and priorities through the years, I strongly believe that Doug Gansler is the best qualified candidate to serve as Maryland’s next governor,” Young said in a statement. “He will bring to Annapolis a unique blend of progressive values, forward-thinking vision and the governing experience that we need now more than ever.”

Gansler expressed gratitude to Young for his endorsement and pledged to govern in a manner that justifies his trust.
“I am honored and humbled to have earned Senator Young’s endorsement,” he said. “It was Ron Young’s commitment to downtown revitalization, his vision of what Frederick could become, and his command of the process that has made the city of Frederick the vibrant destination that it is today.”
Gansler is one of nine Democrats competing to be governor in 2022, when Republican Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. is term-limited.
