Annapolis Shelter Awarded For Serving Domestic Violence Survivors During Pandemic
An Annapolis shelter was recently named a hometown hero for its service to domestic violence survivors during the coronavirus pandemic.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — The Bernie House, an Annapolis shelter for survivors of domestic violence, won the Hometown Hero Award last Thursday. The award applauds the charity for meeting increased housing needs during the coronavirus pandemic.
"The Bernie House provides a unique option for ending [the homelessness of] domestic violence victims," volunteer Tracey Wells said in a press release. "That they were able to grow and continue the mission during a pandemic, is commendable."
The honor came from the Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce at its 15th Business Hall of Fame Awards Dinner. The recognition also honored Patricia Slaughter, the shelter's founder.
