Sewage Spill Prompts Health Advisory For Anne Arundel County Waterway

People who come in contact with the affected water are advised to wash well with soap and warm water immediately.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Anne Arundel County health officials have issued a public health advisory for Boyds Creek off the South River due to a sewage spill.

According to the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works, 6,100 gallons of sewage spilled into the creek before crews successfully stopped the leak and completed the repairs.

After the spill was contained, crews vacuumed all the standing water, cleaned the roadway and spread lime on the grass, officials said.

According to the Department of Health, residents should avoid swimming, waterskiing and other direct water-contact activities in Boyds Creek. The advisory is in effect for one week following the spill.

Signs are posted to let the public know about the advisory. People coming in contact with the affected water are advised to wash well with soap and warm water immediately. Clothing should also be washed.
