GreenScape, Saturday, April 20, 2013
The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department has announced Spring GreenScape 2013 to take place on April 20, 2013. GreenScape is a volunteer effort, sponsored by the City of Annapolis through many of its departments, which encourages and supports individuals and organizations to plant and maintain native gardens in public areas throughout the City. The City provides plant materials, mulch, trash bags and gloves; and the community provides volunteers who want to make a difference in their community. This is the 22nd year of this annual program of beautification, clean-up and planting in public spaces throughout the City of Annapolis by volunteers. SPCA of Anne Arundel County
Volunteers, age 18 and up (or 13-17 with parental accompaniment), are needed to walk dogs, socialize cats, provide foster care for “in-need” animals, help with adoption shows, bathe and brush dogs or help with any other available opportunities. Regular volunteers walk dogs, play with cats, provide foster care for “in-need” animals, help with adoption shows, bathe and brush dogs, assist potential adopters, and help with events. Wish List of Items needed for the shelter: premium dog, puppy, cat and kitten food; six-foot nylon leashes and adjustable nylon puppy and adult collars; covered cat beds (not foam);grooming brushes, combs, nail trimmers and clippers and more. The shelter is open for donations on Mon., Tues., Fri., Sat. & Sun. from 9 am – 4 pm , and Wed. and Thurs from 9 am – 7 pm. Contact 410-268-4388.
- 8:00 am–1:00 pm, Sun., April 7, 2013, 22nd Annual “Walk for the Animals”: Volunteers are needed to help in a variety of roles for this fundraiser being held at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis. The event features sponsor giveaways, information about animal welfare agencies, vendors with all kinds of products, and a demonstration by the AA County Police K9 Unit. YWCA of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County
The YWCA Annapolis and Anne Arundel County provides comprehensive integrated services for individuals and families through domestic violence shelter and hotline; sexual assault services including a hotline, counseling, support groups and hospital accompaniment for rape victims, legal, career, counseling and family services; a mentoring program held after-school for middle school students and an all-girls program located at the high school. There is an immediate need for volunteers for the Phenom Mentoring Program at Meade High School on Tues. & Thurs. from 2:15-4:30 pm. Trainings will be offered to any mentors who wish to receive any tips and hints on successful mentoring as the program progresses. Volunteers do not need to attend every day, but at least come at least once a week on a consistent basis either weekly or bi-weekly. There will be opportunities to mentor one-on-one, offer homework help, assist on college applications, chaperone weekend field trips, help out guest speakers, and facilitate fun projects such as artwork, crafts, and group discussion sessions. Volunteer opportunities are available for all these programs. - 6:30–9:00 pm, Thurs., Mar., 21, 2013, Jaguar Land Rover Fashion Show Benefit: There will be an elegant evening at the dealership located at 101 Ferguson Road, Annapolis, MD 21409 of hot fashions from Diva Boutique, stunning jewelry from Smyth Jewelers, gourmet treats & libations from Chef’s Expressions, and a fabulous auction benefitting the YWCA.
- 10:00 am, Sat., Apr. 27, 2013, 3rd Annual Walk In Her Shoes Event: Donations are suggested but not required, come out and advocate for a morning of Sexual Assault Awareness through walking in solidarity around the AA Community College track, music, food, guest speakers, and mingling with YWCA staff, AACC staff, and various community representatives.
