Area Pastors Plan Variety of Easter Services

The topics that will be discussed are many and varied.

Easter is coming soon and pastors at churches throughout the Pasadena area are planning their Sunday services. A variety of topics will be discussed at these services.

Lake Shore Baptist Church

"My sermon is going to be on Jesus' death," said Pastor Blaine Welker with . "By his resurrected life, our lives are enhanced."

"The meaning of Easter is the pivotal point of whether Christianity is real or a bunch of fools pretending to do something ridiculous," added Welker. "If Jesus didn't come back from the grave, then Christianity is all a farce, he was just a really good teacher. We wouldn't have any hope for our lives getting better here, we'd be stuck in our sins, everything is bad and getting worse if he didn't come back."

Lake Shore has rented out auditorium and will hold their service there at 10:45 a.m.

"The general topic of the sermon will be the resurrection of Christ," said Pastor Thomas Winger with . "The point of the sermon is coming out of Act 2. Peter is at the Pentecost sermon and points back to the resurrection as something that had long ago been prophesized by David, that had really happened, and now he and the other apostles are witnesses to the fact that the resurrection occurred. It is essentially his, and our, hope."

Pasadena Evangelical Presbyterian's service will take place at 11 a.m.

"We're going to be talking about the four things that people thirst for," said Associate Pastor Glenn Magnusen with . "Thirst is our theme—the things that people long for."

"The first point is that we search for meaning in life," said Magnusen. "The second point is relationships with others. The third is that we thirst for moral purity and finally we thirst for God."

Pasadena Assembly of God's service is taking place at 10 a.m.

Galilee Lutheran Church

"I'm going to be talking about the 'hidden Easter,'" said Pastor Henry Simon with , who added that the topic relates to New Testament letters written by the apostle Paul.

Galilee Lutheran will hold several services. There is a contemporary service at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and a traditional service at 8 a.m. Sunday. At 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, the church will host a blended worship service that will combine aspects of both.
