Dads Talk Q&A

Dads have questions too and the Moms Council is here to help!

Welcome to Dads Talk Q&A, where the Moms Council encourages dads to help field some questions! This week's question:

Lately I haven't really been feeling like the world's best dad.  I'm swamped at work, money is tight and I really haven't been able to provide the family fun things that I use to be able to do mere months ago.  I really want to do something with my family so that we can share some happy time.  Do you have any suggestions?

I would suggest packing a picnic lunch and taking the family to a local park like Lake Waterford. They have a very nice playground, biking trails, walking trails and a lake to walk around. You can even fish in the lake. You can also cook on the grills that are provided in the park, just bring some charcoal and your favorite grilling food. It is a great way to spend the day with your family and not spend a lot of money.

First, let me start by saying that you are not a bad Dad just because your finances are strained or you're going through something at work.  Know that the cycles of life work similar to the never-ending ebb and flow of ocean waves and when the tide goes out it always comes back in.  There are so many wonderful things that are family friendly and free that you can do to bring the happy bond back into your life.  Why not plan to go hiking at one of the parks or even put on your chef's hat and fire up the grill.  Little things like a sharing a planned meal together or even just walking and talking can easily stir up the sparks of happiness.
