Dads Talk Q&A

Dads are here to help the Moms Council answer your questions!

Welcome to Dads Talk Q&A, where dads help the Moms Council answer your questions! This week's question:

I work a lot of hours and don't get a lot of time to spend with my kids.  Any suggestions on some fun one on one time with Dad?

I would schedule special time with them even if it is only once every couple of weeks.  Let them be involved with the schedule and let them write it down on a calender.  That way they will know when their special time with dad is coming up and that will make it that much more special.  Even if it is going to the park, going to a cheap restaurant, or just spending time playing in the yard.

One of the best activities that you can do with your kid in lieu of your situation is to go fishing. With my hectic schedule I try to make it happen twice per month weather permitting. It's the type of activity that is cost effective and it helps me maintain a good bond with my kid. Sailing is also good.

Andrew Peters:

My wife and I always practice a regular "date night".   The kids are
familiar with that terminology and so they really enjoy having a "date
night" meal with just dad regardless of the day or meal-time.  Find a
local restaurant with a kids eat free promotion and that would be a
great and inexpensive way to catch-up!
