Deer Hits Police Car, Causes Wreck
The officer suffered minor injuries, but Central Avenue was closed for several hours following the accident.

An Anne Arundel County Police officer suffered minor injuries late Saturday after a deer ran into the side of a police cruiser, causing the officer to lose control of the vehicle and crash into a telephone pole, according to a police report.Â
According to the report, the officer was on a route patrol in a marked police vehicle Saturday night. He was driving in the 100 block of Central Avenue at around 10:30 p.m. when a deer ran from the woods and collided with the passenger's side of the police cruiser.
The impact caused the officer to loose control of the cruiser and crash into a telephone pole on the left shoulder of Central Avenue. The force of the crash caused the telephone pole to snap, and as a result, wires fell onto the roadway, police said.Â
The traffic safety unit responded to the scene and conducted an "in-depth investigation" which revealed the primary cause of the accident was the deer running into the side of the police cruiser. The officer was wearing his seatbelt and the airbags deployed at the time of the crash, states the report. Police say they do not consider speed a factor in the accident.Â
Central Avenue was closed for several hours late Saturday and into Sunday during the investigation and while wires were cleared from the road.
The officer involved with the crash, Ofc. Adam Sanders, was transported to the Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released, according to the report. Â
