Dogs Recovered From Pasadena Residence
Over 51 animals were recovered from a Pasadena residence believed to be involved in a hoarding incident.
Anne Arundel County Animal Control recovered 51 dogs from a possible animal-hoarding site at a Pasadena residence on Friday.
The animals were recovered from a residence at the 1800 block of Choptank Road in Pasadena. Animal Control is currently assessing the health of the dogs and will administer vaccinations and shots as required. The animals are not in distress and will be available for adoption beginning Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. There are a variety of breeds of dog in the recovered animals, including poodles, Yorkshire terriers and poodle/Yorki mixes.
"These dogs are going to fly out of here," said Lt. Glen Shanahan with Anne Arundel County Animal Control. "They're cute, they're small, they're going to appeal to people. I don't see these dogs being here for more than two weeks."
Shanahan added that any dog that wasn't adopted would be sent to a rescue or to the SPCA.
This property was involved in a similar complaint in January 2006 where it was discovered that 24 dogs were on the property and in the residence. The residents were not charged with any violations regarding the 2006 incident. Shanahan said that the circumstances surrounding the 2006 complaint and the resulting investigation are still being examined.
"The officers in that case are still looking into it and one of them isn't working today," said Shanahan.
The residents have not been charged with any violations, though it is anticipated that they will be charged with at least one count of a fancier violation, a $50 fine. Fancier violations involve the keeping of high numbers of animals—at least nine cats or five dogs—without possession of a fancier's license.
