Flood Watch Issued As 2nd Round Of Storms Hit MD

Thunderstorms are expected to drench Maryland, with isolated areas receiving up to 5 inches of rain. The storm could spark flash flooding.

A second day of thunderstorms and showers could overwhelm small waterways and spark flash flooding Tuesday in Maryland.

A flood watch covers most of the state, from Hagerstown to Elkton and Annapolis to the Washington suburbs.

"In total, a widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected, with embedded higher totals of 2 to 5 inches," the National Weather Service said in the watch. "Flash flooding may occur as a result.

Train commuters faced weather issues Tuesday, the Baltimore Sun said. Storms knocked out power to the Aberdeen train station, and the pedestrian tunnel was flooded, the Maryland Transit Administration said in a service alert.

The National Weather Service expects numerous thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The storms may come one after another.

"While thunderstorms will move along at a decent clip, they will be capable of producing very heavy instantaneous rainfall rates, and may exhibit some training motion at times," the weather service said. "Multiple rounds of thunderstorms may be possible at any single location."
