Hiker From Severna Park Found Dead In Shenandoah National Park

A hiker from Anne Arundel County was found dead at a VA national park, officials said. He was 61 years old and had been reported missing.

VIRGINIA — A hiker from Anne Arundel County was found dead Monday in a national park in Virginia, officials said.

The National Park Service identified the man as Robert “Bob” Bieri, 61, of Severna Park. The Park Service has not released the cause of his death.

Bieri was reported missing Saturday evening at Shenandoah National Park. He was last seen off-trail near Lewis Falls.

The park initiated a full-scale search late Saturday evening.

Crews said they found Bieri's body Monday at 12:13 p.m. near Lewis Falls, an 81-foot-tall waterfall.

The site is accessible by a moderate, 3.3-mile hike from Big Meadows amphitheater. The hike takes about four hours and has an elevation gain of 990 feet.

Agencies involved in the search for Bieri included the Maryland State Police, United States Park Police, Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, Appalachian Trail Club and first responders from several jurisdictions.
