Business Recovery Center Opens In Anne Arundel After Key Bridge Collapse

A disaster relief office opened in Anne Arundel County after the Key Bridge collapse. It will help businesses file for recovery loans.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A disaster relief office opened Tuesday in Glen Burnie for businesses affected by the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, which killed three and left another three presumed dead.

The center will help businesses apply for low-interest recovery loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Gov. Wes Moore (D) called the center "an invaluable asset to our community."

"The new Glen Burnie location will help small business owners connect with specialists to apply for SBA disaster loans for up to $2 million to help overcome any temporary loss of revenue stemming from the bridge collapse," Moore said in a press release. "The Biden-Harris administration has been an incredible partner, and we're grateful to SBA Administrator Guzman for helping open new locations to serve Marylanders as we respond to the economic disruptions caused by this tragedy."

The Business Recovery Center will be located inside Arundel Christian Church at 710 Aquahart Road.

This is the third Business Recovery Center that opened since the March 26 bridge collapse, which blocked most shipping traffic to the Port of Baltimore.

The other two Business Recovery Centers are in Canton at 1501 S. Clinton St., Suite 100 and Dundalk at 7200 Sollers Point Road.

All three offices are open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed on Sundays.

"I have heard first-hand the challenges businesses are facing as a result of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge," Anne Arundel County Executive Steuart Pittman said in the release. "We will continue to work with our state and federal partners to provide them with all the necessary support they need during this difficult time."

The centers will remain open until further notice.

The deadline to file loan applications is Dec. 30.

More information is posted at lending.sba.gov and sba.gov/disaster. Applicants can also call the SBA's Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

"Our Business Recovery Centers are one of the most powerful resources at SBA’s disposal to support business owners in the midst of a disaster," stated Francisco Sánchez Jr., associate administrator for the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the Small Business Administration. "Business owners can meet in-person with our specialists to apply for SBA disaster loans and get information on the full breadth of our programs designed to help them navigate their recovery."

The Maryland Department of Labor created an unemployment insurance hotline for affected workers. Applicants can call (667) 930-5989 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. They can also file a claim at beacon.labor.maryland.gov/beacon/claimant-page.html.
