Millersville Crematory Plans Opening After Securing Permit

Maryland Cremation Services plans to open in the fall after securing an emissions permit from the state.

A hotly contested crematory in Millersville recently secured a permit allowing it to open later this year.

Maryland Cremation Services, a business that has fought against its neighbors in Shipley's Choice since it was originally proposed in 2011, was granted an emissions permit by the state on July 24, according to The Capital-Gazette.

Shipley's Choice residents had fought against the proposal dating back to the Anne Arundel County Council's comprehensive rezoning process in 2011. At that time, residents said they were concerned about the air quality, with ash being blown up smokestacks into the nearby air.

Business owners Dorota and Sean Marshall are planning for a fall opening to the business, according to The Capital.
