Millersville Swimmer Wins Bay Swim for Second Year

Megan Viohl took the top prize among women in the 22nd annual charity race.

For the 22nd year, the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim sent hundreds of swimmers across the Chesapeake Bay.

And for the second straight yeat, Megan Viohl claimed the top prize for female swimmers. The Millersville resident, 18, finished the race under the Bay Bridge in 1:38:36, The Capital Gazette reports.

“I love the sport,” Viohl told the paper. “It makes me happy.”

Andrew McKissick, 17, of Ellicott City was the overall top finisher, conquering the race in 1:33:42, according to the paper.

The annual freestyle race, held Sunday, runs 4.4 miles from Sandy Point State Park to a beach near Hemingway's Restaurant on Kent Island.

Proceeds from the race mostly benefit the Maryland Chapter of the March of Dimes, with some grants going to nonprofits, including the Chesapeake Bay Trust, according to the paper.
