Anne Arundel County police released details in the initial investigation of a head-on collision in Glen Burnie Sunday afternoon that left four people dead, including a Pasadena woman driving a 3-year-old child.
Officers responded to Marley Neck Boulevard near Freeman Shores Road shortly after 1:30 p.m. The investigation revealed a 2009 Mazda 3 attempted to pass traffic, crossed a double yellow line and collided head-on with a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am driving southbound on Marley Neck Boulevard
The collision caused both vehicles to travel north, and one passenger was ejected from one of the vehicles.
Arriving personnel pronounced the victims dead at the scene.
Police identified the passengers of the Mazda as driver Joseph Allen Oliver Jr., 30, of Glen Burnie, and Crystal Jean Benton, 18, of Laurel. Investigators identified the passengers of the Pontiac as driver Brittney Marie Ziegler, 21, of Pasadena, and Lilly Renee Gross, 3, of Glen Burnie.
Police said excessive speed by the Mazda may have been a major contributing factor to the collision, and drugs or alcohol have not been determined to be a factor at this point. Traffic officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
