Police Rescue Dog, Owner from Ice-Cold Water
Anne Arundel police officers were not able to revive the dog, but the owner is in recovery after being exposed to the frigid temperatures.

When a one-year-old labrador retriever fell through the ice on South River, his 77-year-old owner went in to search for the pup in the frigid water.
Anne Arundel County Police received a call on Wednesday around 11:15 a.m. to assist with the dog that had fallen through the ice in the area of the Bon Haven Community.
When officers arrived, they found the dog’s owner chest-deep in the water looking for the dog. Officers were able to convince the man to get out of the water before hypothermia set in, but police say the owner stumbled upon the dog under water on his way out and grabbed the dog before he continued for land.

The owner tried to get the dog out of the water when he reached the shore, but fainted and fell back into the water, police say. Officers then went into the water, pulled the man and dog out and began administering first aid to both of them.
Unfortunately, the labrador retriever had been under the icy water for too long and did not make it. The dog’s owner was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center but is expected to make a full recovery.
