The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued a Code Orange air quality alert due to today's hot and humid temperatures.
WJZ reports the alert advises sensitive groups, including seniors, children and people who suffer from asthma, heart disease or lung disease to avoid the outdoors due to the high air pollution concentrations.
The alert covers the Baltimore metropolitan area, including Harford, Carroll, Howard and Anne Arundel counties, according to the report.
The heat index was just shy of 100 degrees in Annapolis at 3:06 p.m. Monday. Highs are expected to stay in the 90s through Saturday.
Meanwhile, county cooling centers are on standby this week, The Capital Gazette reports.
