United Way Awards More Than $400,000 in Grants to Anne Arundel Nonprofits

The grants are part of a $2.7 million effort by United Way in central Maryland.

The United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) announced today that $2.7 million of grants will be awarded to nonprofits helping the area's poor, with $419,000 being awarded to organizations in Anne Arundel County.

"These grants to 71 nonprofit programs across central Maryland allow us to work together toward our overall goal of creating self-sufficient families, stronger communities and a more successful region for us all," said UWCM President and CEO Mark Furst.

Each jurisdiction focused their grants based on the area's need, and many of them focus on assisting  groups educate children of low-income families. The following nonprofits that help Anne Arundel County families were awarded as follows:

  • Anne Arundel County Food Bank, $50,000
  • Arundel House of Hope, $50,000
  • The Light House, $50,000
  • The Salvation Army Greater Baltimore Area, $50,000
  • YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, $50,000
  • Family and Children's Services of Central Maryland, $45,000
  • Anne Arundel County Partnership for Children, Youth & Families,  $40,000
  • Partners In Care Maryland, $35,000
  • The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, $25,000
  • Food Link, $12,000
  • The Center of Help, $12,000
