Vatican Honors Local Teen Inventor Jack Andraka
The North County High School student from Crownsville has taken his talents from the classroom in Glen Burnie to the world stage.

Local teen inventor Jack Andraka made headlines again this weekend after being honored by the Vatican for his work developing a cost-effective method to detect pancreatic cancer.
Andraka visited Italy Saturday to receive the International Giuseppe Sciacca Award for his invention, The Washington Post reports. The award is given to positive role models among youth and do outstanding work in their fields.
The North County High teen developed a revolutionary paper-based sensor that can accurately and efficiently detect pancreatic cancer at a cost of only 3 cents.
For the invention, Andraka won the top prize at the Intel International Science and Engineering fair—the world's largest pre-college science competition—in May.
Since then, he has been in the national spotlight, being featured on "The Colbert Report", "60 Minutes" and hosted a TED Talk.
