Santa Breakfast Comic Book Has Some Seeing Red

Some kids who attended last Saturday's annual Breakfast with Santa sponsored by Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department and Our Savior Lutheran Church may have found an unexpected surprise in their goodie bag--a comic book not intended for young eyes.

Along with pancakes, eggs and bacon, children made holiday-themed crafts and had an opportunity to have a photo with Santa during the Dec. 10 event. They were also given a goodie bag containing treats and a comic book.

The event sponsors discovered--too late--that a bin containing about 200 donated comic books had at least one marked "for mature readers."

"As we were cleaning up after the event, we were horrified to discover that among the comic books which were donated to the church and handed out by Santa at the event were some that are inappropriate in content for children," said Kristi Kunkle, pastor of Our Savior.

"You have our deep apologies and hope for your understanding and forgiveness," said a note posted to the LVFD web site.

Event sponsors encourage parents who attended the event to check for material that may not be age-appropriate.

No complaints were reported. Efforts to locate an offended participant were unsuccessful.
