Amazon Hiring For 4,400 Jobs In Maryland: Report

BALTIMORE, MD — Amazon is hiring, and Maryland is among 15 states where the company says it has added the most jobs recently. The online giant announced this month it is hiring 100,000 people as it expects an increase in business as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

"We are opening 100 buildings this month alone across new fulfillment and sortation centers, delivery stations and other sites," Dave Clark, Amazon's senior vice president of worldwide operations, said in a statement Monday morning.

After Amazon postponed its popular Prime Day from July to October, the company anticipates an uptick in business that will keep employees busy.

The 100,000 new associates will make at least $15 per hour, Clark said, and be trained to provide safe and efficient service.

Up to 4,400 Amazon jobs will need to be filled in Maryland, the Baltimore Sun reported.

"Amazon's continued investment in the state of Maryland has created valuable job opportunities for thousands of Marylanders," Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement. "This latest expansion is great news for our state’s economy and for Maryland job-seekers."

Amazon is holding its annual Career Day Wednesday, Sept. 16, which the company reports will showcase 33,000 jobs available in Alexa, Prime Video and other sectors in addition to the 100,000 positions in operations.
