Pedestrian Killed In Crash That Shut Down Part Of I-695

Two others were also injured in the crash, which occurred Thursday night, according to Maryland State Police.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — A man is dead following a three-car crash in Baltimore County that shut down part of Interstate 695.

According to Maryland State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 11:50 p.m. Thursday on the outer loop of I-695 near Security Boulevard.

Preliminary investigation determined that a Toyota Camry was in the left lane with its hazard lights on after it became inoperable. A Honda HRV driven by 28-year-old Faith Tingen Tikum of Parkville pulled in front of the Toyota to assist and both drivers exited their vehicles.

For unknown reasons, a short time later, a BMW X3 struck the Toyota. The impact from the crash pushed the Camry into the Honda, which subsequently struck the drivers of the Toyota and the Honda.

According to police, impairment may have been a factor in the crash.

Tikum was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, police said. The driver of the BMW, a 27-year-old woman, and the driver of the Toyota, a 23-year-old man, were also taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

The crash prompted authorities to close three lanes of I-695 for approximately three and a half hours. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration responded to the scene to assist with road closure.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Baltimore County, authorities said.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the ongoing investigation.
